Kiva Sakona is an artist and researcher working across installation, video, performance and writing. She investigates how the aesthetic experiences of everyday life are intertwined with the ways late capitalism captures desire. She is particularly interested in the visual and temporal conditions of the multimedia environments we inhabit and how these are closely tied not only to the spirit of productivity of our time, but also to our capacity for attention, sensibility and imagination. Through narratives and experiential explorations of space and time, she delves into how our psychological and affective behaviors are entangled with our audiovisual surroundings. While holding space for humour, she often speculates on the possibility of disengaging from the present-day attention economy. 

Kiva Sakona is a PhD candidate in Artistic Research at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam, and a member of the TARR (Third Cycle in Artistic Research) programme at the Rietveld Academy. She holds a research master’s degree in Artistic Research from the University of Amsterdam, a master’s degree in Art Direction from ESCAC (the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia), a bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country, and a degree in Graphic Design from BAU (College of Arts and Design in Barcelona). Beyond her artistic practice, she has worked as an art director for film productions and as a graphic designer at various design studios. In 2017, she co-founded What The Studio, a graphic design and creative direction studio, which she continues to run. Full CV is available upon request.
